Exhibition Space Design In A Historical Tobacco Factory
The exhibition space preserves the historical factory and tobacco equipment through the context of steel, concrete composite structures and metal frameworks. The old building, light layers in old windows, and the tobacco equipment’s metallic texture reflect one another, forming the basic tonality of the space. The design attempts to maintain and preserve the existing spatial structure and introduce possibilities to read new and old carriers by seeking out gaps in the space. The three major design areas focus on metal, reading the existing textures and transmitting knowledge through various angles and perspectives. The lab passes by the corridor through the old windows. With metallic frames and flaps, the viewers’ sight is guided toward the display of old objects and tobacco under microlights. The convenient accessibility corridor outside the stem-removing room adds new expressions to the old building with its metallic truss, expanded metal lath, as well as the general public passing by. Through reflections, the design implies a relationship between the old equipment and the external facade. Next to the double machine, yellow colors are diffused through reflected light onto the machine’s metallic body and framework, leading viewers to read the layers of the pediment, the gigantic machinery and narrate old stories.
