Wild Garden
Wild Garden, a cultural and artistic space next to Pujiang Country Park, is also the base of FG Studio. FG Studio not only proposed a conceptual design, but also guided the entire life cycle of the project from pre-planning to design and construction, and then from interior layout to post-operation, opening up a new life for this forgotten riverfront site.
The original facility house was a whitewashed sloped-roofed building that can be seen everywhere in the countryside. In terms of architectural form, the designers implanted strong modern elements by interspersing geometric black-framed glass boxes in parts of the original building.
The designers also inserted double white concrete boxes into the two single-story buildings to add richness to the space and break the dullness of the original space. The original ordinary farmhouse, because of the interspersed space, presents a simple but cozy spatial quality.
At the same time, the relationship between the old and the new is shaped into a soft rhythm through the opening of the roof windows and the introduction of skylight. The space experience becomes broader and longer by traversing and roaming through the layers of space.
Some of the original structural materials are intentionally exposed. When they are dramatically placed in the new space, they become one of the visual focal points, along with the contemporary artworks displayed in the space.
