Regent Shanghai on The Bund
The hotel stands in stark contrast to the historical architecture of the Bund while simultaneously facing the futuristic skyline of Lujiazui in Shanghai. This design embodies the philosophy that innovation does not necessitate the abandonment of history; rather, it thrives on the legacy of the past. By drawing on historical depth and unique cultural genes, the design weaves a narrative that marries Shanghai's traditional elegance with a contemporary sensibility, redefining modern sophistication through an Eastern lens. Upon arrival space carefully curated space serves to separate the bustling streets from the hotel’s serene ambiance, providing visitors with a sense of belonging and tranquility. The journey into the central lobby is like unfolding a magnolia blossom, with a circular recessed ceiling echoing the shape of flower buds. Preserving the legacy of the original Seagull Hotel, the lobby features a century-old piano and a grand spiral staircase. The interplay of white stone and black textured walls, alongside a diamond-cut ceiling, directs the eye upwards toward the banquet hall, creating a sense of elevation and grandeur. The restaurant entrance invites guests into a refined tableau reminiscent of old Shanghai, characterized by a gradient of red metal and black oak. Layered partitions enhance the visual depth, symbolizing the cyclical nature of time and renewal. Floral installations throughout the corridor echo the theme of "abundant blooms," leading to an aesthetic that is both exquisite and immersive. The design of the swimming area returns to a natural sanctuary, eschewing excessive colors and embellishments to create a serene aquatic garden. The columns, shaped like petals, unfold gracefully, embodying the essence of growth and blossoming. The guest rooms extend the legacy of Shanghai's Haipai style and lifestyle. Balancing functionality with aesthetics, the spaces reflect the architectural vocabulary of Haipai design while incorporating elements of local culture and the classic color palette.
