ZHONGHAI LONGWU Experience Center, Hangzhou
Nestled in Longwu, Hangzhou, this project is surrounded by lush tea fields and mountains, offering a secluded, low-density luxury retreat away from the city’s hustle and bustle. In the local dialect, "Wu" means valley, and "Longwu" refers to a valley where a Chinese dragon is hidden, symbolizing mystery and seclusion. "Tea Gathering" in traditional Chinese culture refers to an elegant social event where tea takes center stage, accompanied by various activities. Themed "Tea Gathering at the Valley," the project draws inspiration from local cultural heritage, infusing the essence of ancient traditions into a modern social space. This approach not only enhances the elegance and enjoyment of human interactions but also preserves historical continuity while elevating the artistic charm. The design embraces a modern Oriental aesthetic, emphasizing the harmonious integration of cultural and natural contexts. Outdoor tea mountains stretch endlessly and intertwines with indoor courtyard views, creating a seamless fusion of landscape and architecture that evokes a secluded yet luxurious ambiance. The reception hall features an open, unobstructed space where indoor and outdoor waterscapes visually merge, creating a seamless integration of interior, landscape, and architecture. The reception desk’s backdrop is crafted from Amazon green stone, with its patterns echoing undulating tea mountains and lush green tea fields, reinforcing the spiritual connection between visitors and the local context. The property model display area is highlighted by a water installation mounted on the wall, harmoniously blending natural stones with modern materials. The linear ceiling lighting and the wall-mounted water installation offer an immersive experience reminiscent of being in a valley. Here, visitors can observe natural light, feel the textures of stones, listen to the sound of springs, and watch streams flowing gently. The negotiation area features a softly illuminated curved wall that evokes rolling mountains, complemented by handmade paper art that adds natural texture. A simulated skylight softens the commercial atmosphere, integrating tea culture into the space. The area’s focal point is a handcrafted tea table that embraces the courtyard landscape, where guests can engage in traditional tea-brewing rituals, incense burning, and floral art. This setting, reminiscent of ancient scholars and and literati’s gatherings, fosters a harmonious coexistence between people and tea. The dialogue between art and space is elevated with the inspiration drawn from Longwu tea gardens. Here, nature and materials, tradition and modernity, art and culture, spatial attributes, and aesthetics are all seamlessly intertwined.
