B.C. Glacial Water New Retail Store
The project is an unmanned retail space located on the passage way connecting the Deji Art Museum inside of Deji Plaza Phase II. The designer transformed the normal passageway into an art gallery inside of a white forest, the adjacent washrooms are also included in the design. This design is not only in line with the rich cultural and artistic atmosphere of the floor, but also brings visitors a continuous, unbroken and layered experience. The space is reconstructed into a semi-open layout and divided into functional areas such as retail, lounge and warehouse. The designer used white columns to simulate growing branches of Chinese parasol trees- an ubiquitous plant in Nanjing. The lower end of the branch spreads out turning into one piece bar counter and long seating area. Built-in bin and charging ports are integrated into the bar counter to maintain a clean and uncluttered atmosphere. Customers’ orders online are stored in the colorful gradient cabinets, which are inserted into the white wall like puzzle pieces forming into impressionist paintings. Stepping back a few yards, the gradually-varied colors suddenly fall into right place, the full appearance of each painting appears. The washroom signs are distinguished as delicate sculptures hanging on the wall. The overall space is like an art gallery itself, interweaving art and commerce. The designer has created a space that invites people to stop, rest, observe and feel.
